About Heidi
I was born and raised in Colorado, and I’ve been serving Broomfield since 2007. After attending Baylor University, and graduating with a B.S. in Biological Studies and a secondary teaching certification from Colorado State University, I worked as a high school math and science teacher in various states with my husband, Scott, while he served in the 82nd Airborne and was an Aide de Camp to General Urias. After Scott served in Afghanistan in 2007, we decided to put our roots down in Broomfield, while I opened my own math tutoring business and worked as a Communications Director. We have raised our two children, Connor and Emee, in Broomfield and are so grateful we made the decision to raise them in this community that has given us so much. Connor is now studying Healthcare Management at the University of Jamestown, while playing football and running track. Emee is a junior at Legacy High School, is a competitive swimmer, and interned at a Veterinary clinic in Ward 5. We have adopted two dogs, one from Freedom Service Dogs named Baron, and another puppy named Luna from Lifeline Puppy Rescue in Brighton! Luna is our campaign companion you can see on this campaign!
I currently serve as the Executive Director of the Broomfield Resettlement Task Force, which assists with resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan in Broomfield. This work, alongside our all-volunteer team, earned us the Heart of Broomfield Angel Award in 2022.

I am heavily involved in my community, developing deep policy work to understand and solve the challenges that HD33 faces. Many people know me as the grassroots candidate entering the elected life after I helped pass Senate Bill 181 on oil and gas, alongside Councilmembers Jean Lim and Laurie Anderson, so we can have local control over fossil fuel encroachment near homes and schools. You can also see the documentary on Amazon called "Blowout: Inside America's Energy Gamble".
After I won my election in 2019, I have helped

Develop our local control on oil and gas laws and elevating our climate goals for GHG emissions reductions
-
Advocated for our Inclusionary Housing Ordinance

Created a true Board of Health

Gathered community feedback and passed local firearm ordinances
-
Defended our mobile home residents from corporate ownerships

Voted to keep our water rates lower and for tax rebates for affordability

Mentored youth who also want to serve- Join our Youth Advisory Team here!
-
Steered us clear of extremism and towards relationship building and good governance as we have a bloated upper class, a growing strained lower class, and we must rebuild a strong middle class for working families!

Additionally, I have been serving in leadership positions on the following boards:

-

-
I have also volunteered to assist women in domestic violence situations to complete their GED’s and served as a volunteer math tutor at Westlake Middle School.
I was twice-elected to Broomfield’s Ward 5 City Council in 2019 and I am humbled at the opportunity to continue my work listening to, representing, and bettering my community. I am a strong advocate for affordability, safety, schools, and climate action. While I won the Democratic caucus/assembly process at 62% of the vote, I know I represent people beyond party on real kitchen table issues while fighting the federal chaos.
In my free time, I love supporting my kids' athletics, skiing, biking, reading a good book, and loving staycations in Colorado with my family.
